FREEDOM conducted trainings on harvesting, processing, and packaging nipa palm sugar for Sitio Ipil Winemakers Association (SIWA) farmer participants in Lanuza.
Nipa sugar is a natural product of the nipa palm crop which is a subspecies of coconut. This sweetener is different compared to the typical table sugar as it has no aftertaste and produces a distinctive aroma when blended.
The trainings also included the business development of SIWA and utilizing the product to further aid the association in its business ventures and undertakings. FREEDOM’s wished to further extend their aid in empowering SIWA for them to market their nipa sugar to commercial level.
With the project ongoing and has now produced packaged and market-ready sugar, FREEDOM is willing to continue the project until its duration ceases. The vision of FREEDOM to aid farmer organizations in the Philippines on their agri-businesses remains strong.
