Foundation for Rural Enterprise and Ecology Development of Mindanao Incorporated (FREEDOM, Inc.) in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) RuMEPP undertook the “Enhancing Green Coffee Beans Quality Using the Innovative Wet Milling Process” project in Tagbina, Surigao del Sur. Under DTI RuMEPP’s micro-enterprise program, the project engaged primarily on the production of robusta coffee.
The project was designed to help the coffee farmers in Tagbina get a better farm gate price for its green coffee beans through the wet milling process. This process helps improve the quality and aroma of harvested coffee beans.
A series of workshops involving business development was undertaken by three cooperatives in Barangays Sta. Juana, Villaverde, and Kahayagan in Tagbina, namely, Sta Juana Coffee Growers Cooperative, Villaverde Cooperative, and Kahayagan Cooperative. Under FREEEDOM’s assistance, these cooperatives undertook trainings on business and marketing to further improve their agri-businesses and increase farm productivity and income of the farmers.
